And now for the second update from the weekend!
Today we popped back to the DIY store to pick up the fascia panels for the curved sections of the "blade" boards. They just about bend to the curve so that was quite lucky, however the join with the ply sides will need a bit of fettling. Dad also came up with a clever little design to join the 3 metal stays - the ends on the legs are bolted on (as I suggested) but he decided to bend the other ends of the stays the opposite direction and have them as a tight interference fit into a bit of 18mm (I think) ply. This means only one end needs to be unbolted, and the other can simply slot in as you can see in the photo below.
I also bough a set of 3 spot lights that will hopefully be bright enough to illuminate the whole layout. I am going to come up with a design showing how these will be fitted onto the layout tonight. I suspect it will be a simple arrangement, although time will tell!
The legs on the "blade" boards will be constructed differently to how I originally planned. For a start there will be no metal stays. The legs (18mm ply) will simply be slotted between two battens, and then a bolt through the lot to keep it secure. Nice and simple!
